Philanthropy

Finding a cure for deafness and developing a state-of-the-art artificial hearing program will soon be a reality, thanks to the private and public sectors generosity that provide the necessary funding for a variety of programs and research efforts conducted at the Department of Otolaryngology. Initiatives such as the Deafness Research Initiative and the Children's Deafness Fund are two excellent examples of philanthropy dollars at work.

The Deafness Research Initiative
The Department of Otolaryngology has embarked on an ambitious program of basic and clinical research designed, ultimately, to find a cure for deafness. The Deafness Research Initiative will gather scientists and physician-researchers at the University of Miami, School of Medicine under the direction of world-renowned authorities on deafness.

The University of Miami Ear Institute is uniquely qualified to lead this effort, building upon more than a decade of remarkable achievements in research and clinical care. Together with laboratories that will provide the latest in cutting edge technology that is essential to achieve this goal. Philanthropy will be critical to this success.

The Deafness Research Institute seeks to raise $5 million to support the initial three years of the program. This funding will cover the capital costs of laboratory space in the new research center.
